Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology (SVPUAT), Meerut is one of the most prestigious agricultural universities of Northern India. The university was established on 2 October 2000 and became fully operational in 2002. It is popularly known as the “First Agricultural University of the 21st Century” and was created to strengthen agricultural education, research and extension services in Western Uttar Pradesh. The university is named after India's Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and is recognized by ICAR and UGC. It serves the highly productive agricultural belt of Western Uttar Pradesh and works extensively in crop improvement, sugarcane research, biotechnology, horticulture, veterinary sciences and post-harvest technologies. SVPUAT offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs through multiple constituent colleges including the College of Agriculture, College of Biotechnology, College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, College of Horticulture, College of Technology, College of Post Harvest Technology & Food Processing and College of Sugarcane Science & Technology. The university campus spreads across approximately 562 acres and includes advanced laboratories, research farms, experimental fields, veterinary facilities, libraries, hostels, training centers and extension education units. The institution regularly organizes farmer training programs, Kisan Melas and agricultural technology transfer activities.
