Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology (CSAUA&T), Kanpur is one of the leading agricultural universities in India and a major center for agricultural education, research and extension services in Uttar Pradesh. The university is named after the great Indian freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad and officially attained university status in 1975. The roots of the institution go back to 1893, when a small agricultural training school was established in Kanpur to train revenue officers. It later evolved into the Government Agriculture College in 1906, the U.P. Institute of Agricultural Sciences in 1969, and finally became Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology in 1975. The university was formed through the merger of the Government Agriculture College, Kanpur and the U.P. College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Mathura. CSAUA&T is recognized by ICAR, UGC and accredited with a NAAC B+ Grade. The university serves the farming community across 29 districts and six divisions of Uttar Pradesh, making it one of the most influential agricultural institutions in North India. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs through its constituent colleges including the College of Agriculture, College of Forestry, College of Horticulture, College of Home Science, College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology, College of Dairy Technology, College of Fisheries Science and the College of Agriculture, Lakhimpur Kheri. CSAUA&T has played a major role in agricultural research and has developed more than 150 high-yielding, disease-resistant and early-maturing crop varieties in cereals, pulses, oilseeds, vegetables and cotton. The university continuously works on seed technology, crop improvement, agronomy, soil science, plant breeding and sustainable agricultural practices. The university campus includes research farms, experimental fields, seed production units, modern laboratories, hostels, libraries, training centers, extension education facilities and Agricultural Technology Information Centres (ATIC) that directly support farmers with agricultural guidance and technologies. Today CSAUA&T remains among the most respected State Agricultural Universities in India and continues to contribute significantly to agricultural innovation, farmer welfare, crop development, education and rural development.
